Hundreds of people took to the streets of Cardiff in solidarity with the hunger strikers today, in a demonstration called by the Kurdish People’s Assembly Wales.
Recently the Senedd became the first parliament in the world to officially support the hunger-strikers, and committed to press the Committee for the Prevention of Torture to visit Imrali Prison where Öcalan is held, and for the Turkish state to allow his lawyers and family access. #ImamsMotion was named after Newport resident Imam Sis, who will be on day 112 of his hunger-strike. Despite this positive step there remains a profound silence from the media and hunger-strikers are at a critical stage. Since the launch of hunger-strike actions by HDP MP Leyla Güven on 8th November 2018, five people have lost their lives, four of them being prisoners. Zülküf Gezen, Uğur Şakar, Ayten Beçet, Zehra Sağlam & Medya Çınar. We need to channel their power and take to the streets, to end the isolation, break the silence, and tear down fascism! Bîjî Berxwedana Zîndanan!
